TWIST EXTENSIONS
Do you provide the hair for Marley or Havana twists?
We do not provide hair for marley or Havana twists but we do use a specific hair which can be purchased on the ground. Contact the salon after booking your service so we can tell you the closest place to get it. We recommend 5-7 single packs or 3-4 double packs of Bobbi Boss Jamaica Twist Braid or 6-7 packs Femi Marley Hair. Some clients prefer Cuban Twist or Mojito Hair but some clients believe is very rough and itchy.
What is the difference between spring and bomb twists?
Spring twists and bomb twists are very similar. Spring twists are smoother and the coil is bigger but bomb twists have a smaller coil and even more springy.
What the difference between all the twist extension style services that you offer?
The difference is the curl pattern. Just like human hair, there are many different patterns. Some styles come in longer lengths also! We use human/synthetic blends for some extensions styles. Some style are braided in at the base (Spring) and some are rolled in for a knotless base (Marley, Havana). View our gallery to see the various styles.
What type of hair do you use for your twist styles?
We use synthetic (kanekalon or toykalon) hair fibers that are light and soft and feel like human hair. Unlike human hair, Synthetic hair also is not affected by humidity and won't puff up or change its structure.
Do you use human hair in any twisting extension services?
Yes, however, the client will have to provide the hair or a blend of human hair and synthetic hair.
I want a knotless braided base, which twist services do you offer that have this?
The curl pattern of the hair determined if it can be twisted in knotless. Many twists begin with a braid base because of this. We offer Havana twists and Marley twists as knotless base options. Spring twists are also available knotless.
CROCHET TWIST HAIR TIPS
INDIVIDUAL TWIST EXTENSION HAIR
CROCHET STYLES
What are crochet braids?
Crochet braids is an extension style that involves braiding hair into a pattern and using a crochet hook needle to latch hook synthetic or human hair to the braided base. It's similar to sewing a wig into place but different as far as installing. The sky is the limit as far as styles. There are various braiding patterns to accommodate leaving hair out around the perimeter, vixen style, allowing for hair to be pulled into a ponytail, etc.
How long do crochet braids last?
Crochet braids should not be left in for longer than 6-8 weeks as debris from sebum (natural scalp oils) begins to build up on the scalp and typically there is about 1/2 to 1 inch of new growth. This new growth will be affected by the tension of the crochet hair and may potentially break as the braided base will no longer be tension free.
What brands do you recommend on the ground for the crochet style service?
There are many great brands to choose from. When purchasing hair, touch the hair, see how it feels. If it looks itchy then it probably is! If it is super shiny then it won't look natural! If it looks frizzy in the pack then it's going to be frizzy on your head. Match your hair color in the store by standing in natural light. The key is to stay away from super shiny, frizzy or itchy hair! Samsbeauty.com or ElevateStyles.com offers many other options but be sure to look at the reviews.

Can I combine a crochet with twist extension style?
Yes, we do partial crochet styles . We can crochet the crown and do individual twists along the perimeter. This technique is an upcharge.
Do you do partial crochet styles?
Yes, we do partial crochet styles that include curls in the back, a bun on the top, braids and twists on the top, or alternatively, waterfall crochet on the crown. Please look at our menu of services and book either a Partial Crochet Style or Flat Twist or Braided Updo and add the ADD ON for the crochet.
How do I take down my crochet braids?
I will indicate where to start un-braiding your hair. Prior to taking down your actual braided base, you need to cut the crochet hair right above the knots and gently pull it from the braid. After removing the crochet hair, emulsify a small amount of oil in your hands and then gently take down the braided base. After all braids have been removed, then you MUST remove the shedded hair which can be done by working in 6-8 sections, misting each section with water, and using a wide tooth comb to comb out the shed hair. If you do not remove the shed hair then your hair will matt up when the water touches it.
Can I wash my crochet braids?
Yes, it is not necessary, but focus on the scalp. Do not over shampoo, as the shampoo needs to be rinsed out and the hair must be thoroughly dried. If the hair is not dried then it could lead to an unpleasant odor.
How do I maintain curly or wavy crochet braids?
Twist the pattern gently in 6-8 sections and put on a scarf or satin bonnet at night?
SCALP CARE
How do I care for my crochet braids, individual twists, braids or faux locs?
Scalp care is very important as your hair is already in a protective style. No style should be kept in for more than 6-8 weeks as sediment from sebum (natural scalp oil) builds up on he scalp.
*Itching? - Use cotton pads with witch hazel (i.e. Dickensons/Thayers) to gently sooth the scalp or mist with a spray bottle with 8 oz water and 8-10 drops of tea tree oil.
*Dryness? - Massage an oil (i.e. olive, grape seed, avocado, coconut) onto the scalp. Essential oils may be added like rosemary, clary sage, tea tree but consult with stylist if confused.
*Cleansing? - Focus on the scalp and use a sulfate free, low lathering, moisturizing shampoo. Rinse thoroughly and allow to completely dry.
*Conditioning? - Not necessarily needed.
*Swimming? - Wash any chlorine (from pools) daily from hair by using a moisturizing shampoo. Allow the hair to dry. Best swim caps here : i.e. (Amazon) jumbo xl size for extensions and dense natural hair.
*Nighttime? - Use a satin/silk scarf around the edges, satin bonnet, and/or a satin pillow case.
*Moisture? (individuals only) - Mist hair lightly with rose water or with a spray bottle with water mixed with a little conditioner or oil.
COLOR
Am I required to do a color consulatation?
Existing clients do not need to book a color consultation whether they have had color before or not and the consultation occurs during an existing appointment.
NEW clients must book a color consultation whether they have had color before or not and patch test is required.
What does the color consultation entail?
We discuss the client's prior color history (i.e. any current color on hair, any prior reactions, porosity, etc), requested color, best color application method, etc. We review swatches and determine if a patch test is needed. A patch test is required for new and existing clients, if the client has never had a color application. Results are reviewed over a period of 4 weeks. We do not require a signed waiver for color service, as we discuss the color process, which is a chemical service, at your consultation. When the client books a color appointment, then per your review of the Salon FAQs page, then you are releasing and may not hold Embrace Hair Art dba Embrace the Natural You, LLC or any of its employees and its agents harmless against any and all liability, damage, and/or expenses arising out of or in connection with actions, claims, and/or damages resulting in personal injuries and disabilities (physical and/or psychological) that might incur as a result of the chemical altercation through permanent chemical processing of your hair. When you book your color appointment then you understand that additional conditioning treatments may be recommended and/or necessary for my hair maintenance and that permanent damage to hair is possible due to the chemical application.
What is the difference between semi-permanent, demi-permanent, and permanent hair color?
The salon rarely uses permanent hair color as it can be harsh on natural and locked hair. Semi-permanent or temporary hair dyes apply color to the outer cuticle only and last a very short time. Demi-permanent hair colors fill in the hair cuticle with color and the outer cuticle with color. Permanent hair color is longer lasting and penetrates the outer and inner cuticle.
What causes color to fade?
Various things can cause color to fade such as sun exposure, excessively washing, use of products not formulated for color treated hair, etc. Fine hair and high porosity hair treated with color may experience rapid color fading.
Who should consider color?
IF ANY OF THE REASONS BELOW APPLY TO YOU THEN YOU MAY CONSIDER GETTING YOUR HAIR COLORED:
How do I care for my color treated hair?
Use hair products specifically formulated for color treated hair.
What does a color correction entail?
Color corrections are done to fix hair color anomalies (i.e. to much gold, ashy, brassy, patches, hot roots, prior color service gone wrong, botched home coloring, etc.)
Color corrections may take multiple visits to ultimately achieve as there is a lot of time invested in correcting a problem. Providing the stylist with a clear color history or rather providing truthful information regarding what you have had done will assist in correcting the problem also. Sometimes color corrections will take more than 1 visit to complete and that does not change the price of the color correction service. Each visit, regardless if it involves multiple visits, is considered a separate appointment. There is a lot chemistry involved in correcting color and a true understanding of the law of color.
I currently do not offer color corrections.
